Darlington Night SBP 2011



This track update is based on the original darlington_night_SBP08 track released by www.saferbarrierproject.com, as there has been no updates from SBP in a very long time, and we needed some changes made to the track for league use, I decided to update and release it although I couldn't obtain permission from the AWOL J-Rock.

So full credit to J-Rock for the original release that this track is based on.

Changes from darlington_night_SBP08:
  • All new track and building textures to better reflect the track at night
  • New Night Sky
  • New Retro Walls
  • New Retro Darlington logos
  • New 2011 Race logos
  • New Pit Entry, Exit and Caution Lights
  • All new track lighting & shading
  • New "collision physics" with Safer Barrier in track ini to aid unglueing yourself from the wall without spinning.
  • New Race.lp line and Grip/Wear (untested with AI for more than a short race, so this may need adjusting).
  • Several redundant materials removed from track surface
  • All new track and building textures to better reflect the track at night
  • Object Clipping (drawing distance) fixed
  • Cams updated

What isn't updated:
Trackside signage including Safer Barrier Advertising - no time or suitable reference material available (our league races are the Thursday after the real race) so those things are as they were on the 2008 version of the track with the retro walls merged around it.

THIS VERSION IS A WORK-IN-PROGRESS. OTHER UPDATES MAY BE MADE IF SUITABLE REFERENCE MATERIAL BECOMES AVAILABLE.

KNOWN ISSUES:
The Retro Walls wrap around the entire wall, it was only when I was watching the Nationwide race that I realised this wasn't the case, but it looks pretty cool anyway, our tracks need to be available a week in advance before the race for guys to practice so the track is 99% guesswork, but it looks pretty close.

For myself, video screens always cause stuttering, so there is a 3do to remove the video screens in the "remove_videoscreens" folder, just copy it over to the track directory.

Along with the other issues listed, there is a noticeable frame-rate drop in the frontstretch of the track when running with other cars (especially Hi-rez ones) and all Graphics Options on or enabled - I believe this to be a rouge texture or the new turn 1 grandstand J-Rock built but didn't have time to fix it.

Users on lower-end video cards or processors may experience a hit in frame rates due to the large amount of textures included in this track.

GRIP/WEAR:
As installed this uses the V8Thunder levels of grip and wear that we will use in our League race, to revert back to and use the original SBP grip/wear values rename the files as follows: track.ini to smifftrack.ini and SBPtrack.ini to track.ini - I also updated the race.lp for my own use and this is included as standard, all the default sBP LP files are included in the dat file, so to use the original SBP race.lp, rename the race.lp in the track directory to smiffrace.lp, when the track loads it will then default to the dat included LP file.

The fast.cup.sim setup is the Volker Hackman setup, to use the original SBP one, rename SBPfast.sim.cup to fast.sim.cup (bear in mind that the AI cars always use the fast setup regardless of what you select in the garage), for all the other setups, you'll need to copy them over from the original SBP track.
